Minister praises award-winning Park & Ride
The Scottish Government’s Transport Minister was on hand to open Scotland’s largest Park & Ride, recently constructed by SPT.
The much-needed 700 space facility at Croy is in addition to the railway station's existing 215 space car park, making it the largest of its kind in the country.
Keith Brown MSP officially opened the site, which has since scooped an award for Best Transport Integration at the prestigious Scottish Transport Awards.
Now in their ninth year, the awards recognise excellence, innovation and progress across all areas of transport.
“We can help reduce congestion by having people park their cars here.”
The project was the result of a joint initiative by SPT and North Lanarkshire Council to meet increasing commuter demand.
The Scottish Government provided funding towards developing Croy as a strategic Park & Ride site and its £5 million grant also covered the costs of operating interlink bus services to and from nearby towns until the new facility was built.
Croy is also the first rail Park & Ride car park to achieve the prestigious Park Mark Award for secure parking from day one.
Keith Brown MSP said: “The increased provision of parking here, and elsewhere in the SPT area using Scottish Government funding, reflects our success in encouraging more Strathclyde car users to shift to public transport for travel into Glasgow, easing their commute whilst also reducing congestion and carbon emissions.”
