Changes at the top for SPT

April, 2010

Councillors at SPT have appointed a new management team to take the organisation forward into a new era with a top priority being the delivery of a new Subway system fit for the 21st Century.

Former deputy Chief Executive Gordon Maclennan has been appointed as Chief Executive. Valerie Davidson, formerly Assistant Chief Executive (Business Support), will become Deputy Chief Executive and Eric Stewart, current Director of Bus Operations, will become Assistant Chief Executive (Operations).

We've got a team that will deliver better transport for the people of the west of Scotland and beyond.

The appointments are for a period of one year and follow the early retirement due to ill health of SPT's former Chief Executive Ron Culley.

Jon Findlay, Chairman of SPT, said: "We have to take decisive action and appoint an executive management team that has the power and confidence to make the many tough decisions that need to be made to take this organisation forward.

"This is all the more necessary now with immediate challenges like Subway modernisation and uncertainties in relation to the public finances.”

He added: "These appointments will give us a necessary stability but will bring a new sharper vision to SPT's management. They will also give SPT's staff more certainty about the future.
